James Bean was born in 1785 to William Bean II and Ann Alcott Scott in Burke County North Carolina.
It is believed that James went to Franklin County, Tennessee before his three brothers, where he
married Sarah (Sally) Littell and then moved around 1808 to Harrison County, Indiana. There is strong
evidence that they returned again to Tennessee for a short period, during which time their second son
was born.
James and his family finally returned to Harrison County before 1820. James acquired several hundred
acres jointly with others. The family settled permanently on their farm, south of Corydon, Indiana. James
died in 1832. James and Sallie are buried in Jordon cemetery, located three miles south of Corydon.
