Adam and Margaret were the only UTZ family members, other than Adam's brother Conrad and sister-in-law Elizabeth
(BAKER) UTZ, to migrate from Virginia to southern Indiana. Enroute, they stopped temporarily in Tennessee where
their daughters Mary and Polly were was born . The following year the Utz family continued their trek northwestward
and settled in Harrison Co., IN. The Indiana census for 1820 shows them in Harrison Co. under the name "Youtz". By
1830 they had moved to Georgetown in adjacent Floyd Co., IN. The 1860 census shows them there and includes the
fact that Adam was of German origin and could not read or write.
Adam Utz bought land in July 1826 in Floyd County where he lived the rest of his life on his farm.
